Chasing the Big Five Adventure Motorcycle Tour

Our Chasing the Big Five tour covers a large portion of the South Eastern Cape and takes you through two safari parks via winding roads and rolling mountain passes on the Honda Adventure Motorcycle.

Experience the majestic Baviaanskloof, pristine Kammanassie area and famous Knysna Forest. We visit the Addo National Park, third biggest game reserve in South Africa, which stretches over 176 000 hectares and is home to 600 Elephants and 95 different mammal species including Black Rhino, Lion, Leopard, Buffalo and Hyena. The tour includes two game drives.

The Big Five tour offers exhilarating riding experiences through rugged passes, valleys and mountains. The tour is very scenic with great diversity in abundant flora and fauna with beautiful landscapes. Truly an authentic African adventure!

Tour start dates

This tour is available for booking throughout the year. In cases of flash flooding the route may be closed for all transport. Rainfall is generally expected during February and March.


Day 1

Transfer from George Airport. Arrive in Knysna. Riders briefing and dinner at the Motorcycle Room in Knysna. Overnight at Brenton Cottages in Brenton on Sea.

Day 2

Knysna to Willowmore (Adventure Motorcycle). Depart from the Motorcycle Room towards Willowmore via the historic Seven Passes road, Montagu pass and Kammanassie. Night time game drive at Bhejane Game Reserve. Overnight at Bhejane Game Reserve near Willowmore.

Distance covered: 302 km

Day 3

Willowmore to Addo (Adventure Motorcycle). Depart Willowmore towards Addo National Park via Groot Rivier mountains and Zuurberg mountain pass. Overnight at Zuurberg Mountain Village.

Distance covered: 258 km

Day 4

Addo to Steytlerville (Adventure Motorcycle). Morning game drive in Addo National Park. Depart towards Steytlerville via gravel roads. Overnight at Royal Hotel in Steytlerville.

Distance covered: 178 km

Day 5

Steytlerville to Baviaans (Adventure Motorcycle). Depart towards Baviaanskloof via the Groot River route over Antonies pass, entering the Baviaans nature reserve. Overnight at Duiwekloof Lodge in Baviaanskloof.

Distance covered: 229 km

Day 6

Baviaans to Knysna (Adventure Motorcycle). We ride towards Knysna via Uniondale, the historic Prince Alfred pass and Kom se Pad in the Knysna forest. Overnight at Brenton Cottages in Brenton on Sea

Distance covered: 183 km

Day 7

Depart. Breakfast in Knysna. Transfer to Airport

The tour offers breath-taking views, rugged terrain for exhilarating riding, and the opportunity to visit some of the most prestigious game reserves South Africa has to offer.

It kicks off at The Motorcycle Room in Knysna. The first and last leg of the trip includes a ride through Baviaanskloof where you will be stunned by the pristine scenery. Other highlights include several passes as well as two game drives.

The accommodation for the tour is pre-booked by Ride Out Africa. Depending on the location, accommodation will be hosted by Guest Houses, Hotels, Guest Farms and Game Reserves. All these establishments were tried and tested by our team beforehand and were hand-picked as selected accommodation. We will try to accommodate every rider with their own private lodgings but in some cases, riders may have to share a room.

Breakfasts and dinners will be included and prepared by accommodation hosts. You can expect a taste of traditional South African cuisine paired with true South African hospitality. Depending on the location, lunches will be on the road, served by the team, or served at a local eatery.

Due to the diverse climate in Southern Africa and the vast areas covered on our tours, we recommend that riders bring along Dual Sport riding gear as opposed to Road Bike gear.
